Rehearse a script with a controlled reading pace

Set up the display and use manual controls without confusing screen movement with measured speaking speed.

Make the script readable first

Begin with the message you need to deliver. Use short paragraphs and deliberate section breaks so the reader has clear visual landmarks. The teleprompter treats the input as plain text. Notes, punctuation and stage directions remain visible; nothing is interpreted as a hidden command or removed from the script automatically.

Adjust text size, line spacing and column width from your actual reading distance. A narrow column can reduce the distance your eyes travel, while a larger font can make a distant display easier to read. These settings change the amount of text that fits on screen, so choose a comfortable layout before you judge the scrolling pace.

Choose a pace you can control

The speed control moves the script in screen pixels per second. It does not assume that every line takes the same amount of speaking time. The separate reading-time estimate divides the script word count by the WPM value you choose. That estimate is a planning aid rather than a measurement of your voice.

Start a take and let the countdown finish before reading. With focus in the reading area, use Space to pause and the up or down arrow to change speed. Use paragraph bookmarks to find a section during practice. A manual jump is recorded so a partial or repeated section is not later treated as an uninterrupted full-script performance.

Finish and inspect the result

At the end, finish the take to add its timing and note to the history. Review visible time, pauses and the reading range. If the tab was hidden, the reader stayed paused and that hidden interval was excluded. The timer also protects against a long animation gap causing an abrupt jump in the script.

Repeat the same text and reading range when you want a useful timing comparison. A shorter take may reflect fewer pauses, a different pace or less time spent waiting for sound. It does not by itself demonstrate a clearer or more convincing delivery. Use the measurements alongside your own review of the actual presentation.
